Take a Trip – Porsche Suspension Work
Your Porsche chassis is equipped with one of the most sophisticated
suspension systems ever used on a sports car. When you choose to
have it tuned and set up, you need to make sure you hand over your
Porsche to people who know exactly what is required. In order to
get the right information and the best set-up for your Porsche, just
visiting a website is not enough in this case. You need to make a
call and discuss it with an expert.
How can we help you?
When you call JZM you will be asked a series of questions designed
to help us assess your needs. For instance, will you be using your car
daily, do you require a straight forward four wheel alignment, would
you like to improve the handling, would you like your car to sit lower
and will you be attending track days. Once all the information has been
gathered we can give you a price for the work. You can then arrange a
convenient date with our service communicator and book your car in.
On the day your car is coming in, if you did not book one of our
hire car’s and do not have a lift waiting for you, we will happily give
you a lift to the local train station.
The right man for the job
Every morning all our technicians have a meeting to discuss the day
ahead. Your car will be allocated to the technician most suited
to the type of work that it is in for. In this case your car will be
handed over to our suspension department, headed by Chris and his team.
The member of staff who you spoke to on the telephone and who you met
that morning will then give a detailed brief to Chris and his team
about your requirements.
Preparation
Your car will now have seat covers, floor mats and a steering wheel
cover fitted and then be carefully driven onto a ramp which has been
selected for this type of work. If your car is in for a full suspension
set-up it will be positioned on our state of the art four-wheel
aligning machine, where a ‘before’ reading will be taken once the all
the equipment has been set up.
The Hunter Series 611 Computerised Wheel Alignment System
The Hunter machine is quite unusual as it does not require cameras
or cables to be fitted to each wheel. This is to ensure the accuracy of
the geometry setting. Cameras increase the weight when fitted to the
wheels which can distort the reading due to the heavy battery used
inside the camera to send back a signal to the computer.
The Series 611 uses a light reflector that bounces back a signal to
the computer which is fixed to the wall with the camera, making sure
that you get a perfect setting every time. This gives you better
handling, better fuel consumption and less tyre wear. A “before
and after” print-out of your settings will be supplied for your
information.
Choosing the right components
If you opted for a suspension tuning package all the parts will have
been supplied in advance by our parts department to meet the
specifications agreed during the conversation which you had before you
booked your car in. The suspension components are carefully
selected and will be of the highest quality to compliment the fantastic
Porsche chassis, making sure that your car is still every bit as
enjoyable to drive.
Once all the parts have been replaced using new nuts and bolts where
required, and all moving parts have been greased to avoid them seizing
up in the future, we will run through the same four wheel alignment as
mentioned earlier.
With most suspension upgrades we need to add a final finishing touch
to the suspension by balancing all four corners of the car on our
corner weight machine which is an integral part of our geometry ramp.
Putting it to the test
Once all the work has been completed your car is then taken on a
test drive and the route is chosen to suit the type of work that has
been done. Driving in traffic during the rush hour can be difficult but
our test drivers are very careful and safe at all times, whilst still
making sure that your car is performing as it should.
Putting the icing on the cake
With the test drive completed, the job card and report finished, the
technician hands the paperwork back to our service communicator who
will finalise all the costs and check that all the work has been
carried out as you requested. A final quality check is completed
at this point. A young, enthusiastic assistant will now clean
your Porsche inside and out, using specially selected products. While
this is going on, a phone call will be made to let you know that
your car is ready for collection.
And off you go!
At this point, if you have time, we will explain to you the final
costs which will be the same as your quote, or we can discuss it when
you arrive to collect your car. You will also be offered advice
for the future plus answers to any questions that you may have.
You are then escorted to your car to experience the high quality
of our workmanship as you drive away with the confidence that all the
work has been completed properly and to your requirements. |
